Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): By lowering acid concentration, PPIs relieve the painful symptoms of heartburn and allow the inflamed lining of the esophagus (esophagitis) to heal.
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD): They promote the healing of ulcers in the stomach and duodenum by reducing the corrosive action of acid, giving the mucosal lining time to repair itself. This is critical for ulcers caused by excess acid or by the use of certain anti-inflammatory compounds.
